A Light Shines In the Darkness

Recently, I’ve been creating these inspirational messages on ceramic wall hangings. I cut off a lump of clay and roll it through a large rolling press to create a flat slab of clay. Then, I put the slab on top of newsprint on a board and gather my carving tools. I’ll sit down with this blank slate in front of me to create something unique, inspiring and real.

When I sit down to start a new piece, even though I have tons of phrases I’d like to use, typed into a note on the phone, a phrase or word usually presents itself to me in that very moment.

When I sat down to create this piece, “A Light Shines,” that’s the exact statement that wanted to be created in that moment. I don’t know why. I didn’t ask why, I just followed along.

As I began carving, I realized this is something we all need to remember, as humans, especially when things seem really dark or bleak around us.

It is absolutely humbling to realize the trials and tortures and tribulations some humans have had to endure. And, they’ve made it through. There was a Light Shining in themselves or in the world that inspired them to keep going, to continue seeking this Light.

A Light Shines in you and me too and in all of life. Sometimes we just need to seek it to see it.
